Services

Each client relationship is based on the needs of the project or the type of organization.  Services generally break out in one or more of the following categories:

Working directly as well as indirectly via industrial partners, Buckler Biomedical aids clients with the idea concept phase, composition of grant applications, direct scientific and engineering contributions, and facilitation/support of effective partnerships.

  • Technology Applications

We are presently working together with clients in the pursuit of quantitative imaging biomarkers, mechanistic imaging analytics, structural informatics, and computational systems biology.  We apply engineering principles and systems analysis to the underlying detection and modeling problems to characterize biological processes of interest, as well as designing monitoring and control applications exploiting encoded biomedical knowledge.

      Examples include:

    • Assessing the suitability of scanner design generations for mechanistic imaging given the time course of the process being quantified as compared to limitations of instrumentation designs vs. characteristics of tracers.
    • Pursuit of system designs for clinical decision support and closed loop control systems using model-based approaches for applications across the cycle of care.
    • Acquisition of training data sets from in-vitro, in-vivo, and ex-vivo assays.
    • Development of simulation and modeling techniques well-matched for the interpretation and quantitative characterization of pathogenic processes.
    • Pursuit of increasingly sensitive and specific measurement methodology for the collection of both training and validation data sets.
    • Computational runs of models to predict biological behavior.
    • Validation of predicted results based on quantitative in-vivo measurements.
    • Theoretical and practical aspects of computational complexity associated with the methods.
  • Product Development

•Product Definition as Driven by Market
    •Systems Engineering
    •Project Management
    •Verification and Validation
    •Engineering Process (FDA, DFSS, CMMI)
  • Vision and Strategy

    Examples include:

    • Strategy for using existing data for retrospective analysis to test hypotheses regarding candidate biomarkers’ ability to increase statistical power per subject.
    • Working out strategies for maximizing efficiency of translational medicine, e.g., the discovery to development transition, and/or between preclinical vs. clinical instrumentation and analytics.
    • Trading-off the investment that might be made in working down measurement variability from a technological point of view vs. the costs of higher enrollments or extended trial time-frames, and engaging CROs and device manufacturers on such topics.
  • Business Leadership

    •R&D Management
    •Cross-department Program Management
    •Organizational Design
    •Post-acquisition Business Integration
    •Policies and Procedures
Examples of current engagements include industrial partnerships, methods to package and develop product, and developing business models for imaging biomarkers.

In addition to a standard contracting model, engagements are undertaken where Buckler Biomedical serves as a manufacturer's representative (such as with Philips for the IMALYTICS Workspace), a principal investigator, or a product development company.

Example client and partner recommendations include (see http://www.linkedin.com/profile?viewProfile=&key=4923101&trk=tab_pro#recommendations for attribution of these recommendations as well as others):

“Andrew is a very talented scientist, but has unusually good communication skills. This combination should provide him with a wealth of opportunities in a several areas, either in his corporate or academic career.”

“Andrew has the ability to see the big picture while keeping control over the details. He demonstrated he can manage and motivate highly skilled professional teams. He mastered the challenges of developing a cohesive international team over several time zones. I highly recommend him”

“Andrew is a visionary leader who understands all aspects of the business and inspires confidence in his choices of strategic direction.”
